the end is near

these are some of the things i am supposed to be studying...but instead here i sit on the internet. the end is in sight! tomorrow at three i will be FREE for a whole month! to celebrate, tomorrow night we are having an awesome party for which i'm going to make peanut butter cookies and the secret family recipe of egg nog cakes. let it end!

weekend splurge pt. 1

in a successful attempt to distract myself from exams i went shopping. this retail therapy lasted the entire weekend, but here is the first part, the result of a friday night spent at target armed with a gift card.

first, the metallic leopard print socks. am i losing my mind? possibly. i really want to wear these with some black tights and black flats, but since it is still 70 degrees (!!!) here i haven't gotten the opportunity.

again, i'm waiting for the cold to come. but they are sooooooo soft.

these were only $7.50!! i don't think i would have bought them at full price because they look too urban outfitters for me, but at $7 i couldn't refuse.

the motherland

can we talk about this amazing article?!? yes, the new issue of spin has a magnificent, amazingly accurate, two-page spread on MEMPHIS. will our city become the next austin?? most likely not (which may be a good thing). however, really good things could come out of some positive (for once) buzz.

in a week, my new apartment will have cable, and i will be able to watch svu every day! i have missed it in my cable-free existence of the past semester.

pretty little things

in the past few weeks i have gotten totally obsessed with the decoration of my future (1 week!) memphis apartment and bidding on oh-so-pretty but utterly functionless objects (including these) on ebay. what, pray tell, am i going to do with a phone in an apartment with no connection, or a doorstop on a carpeted floor? someone stop me before i turn into my grandmother and have a house full of knick-knacks.

today my roommate alice bought me a 2008 mini calendar called WILD BABIES. it has twelve pictures like this:

, and is so cute i can hardly stand it. and although i would never have eaten a polar bear or an elephant anyway, it makes me extremely glad i'm a vegetarian.
